2024 Hurricane Season Checkin

We are about three months into hurricane season, and have had four named storms so far this season, which have resulted in rather wet July and August for Georgia.

Tropical Storm Alberto (June 19 - 20)

Areas of impact - Mexico, Galveston Texas, Grand Isle Louisiana

  • Spawned two tornados in Texas

Hurricane Beryl (June 28 - July 9)

Areas of impact - Grenada, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Tulum, Cayman Islands, Venezuela, Texas

  • Category 4 storm at strongest

  • Spawned tornados in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Kentucky, Indiana, New York, & Ontario.

Tropical Storm Chris (June 30 - July 1)

Areas of impact - Yucatan Peninsula

Hurricane Debby ( Aug 3 - 9)

Areas of impact - Cuba, Northern Florida, Southern Georgia, Coastal South Carolina,

  • Category 1 storm at strongest

  • Spawned tornados in Southeast, and flooding along entire eastern seaboard.

  • Preliminary damage reports estimate about $2 billion in damages, mostly due to flooding due to the immense amount of rain
